Canteen Liaison Sub-Committee
The Canteen Committee comprises the Canteen Manager and other interested canteen staff members, the P&C Canteen Representative and several parent volunteers. They meet once or twice a term to discuss staffing, menu planning, pricing and other issues affecting the school canteen. Adherence to the Department of Education and Training Traffic Light regulations whilst providing an interesting menu is one of the main priorities of the Committee.
Friends of Music Group
The Friends of Music Group was formed to promote the interests of the Music students at Perth Modern School. Music students participate in several performances during the course of the school year including the ABODA orchestra and band festival. The music department undertakes an overseas tour generally once every three years, and planning is underway for the next tour scheduled for 2011.
The Friends of Music group performs several support functions at these events - stage crew, catering, promotions and fund raising. If your child is entering the music program you will automatically be invited to join the group.
Because our students come from all over the state and metropolitan area, the Friends of Music Group operates in several geographical zones and these are Central, South, North East, Hills and West. These groups are co-ordinated by a Group convenor. The current convenor is Lisa Harries who can be contacted via email lisanharries@optusnet.com.au. Lisa will be happy to direct you to your closest group.
Please bring your fundraising ideas, bring a cloth cap, an apron or just turn up! Another pair of hands is always welcome. It's a great way to meet other parents at the school and be part of your child's journey.
Ballet Support Group
The Ballet Support Group provides support to the ballet students at the school by raising funds for teachers and examiners to visit from interstate and overseas. This year we have had Paul Boyd from Queensland visit and examine the students. He also choreographed pieces for the students and held Master Classes.
In October, Alex Fotescu will spend three weeks working with the students. Alex is from Romania and has worked all over Europe and the UK. Alex will hold classes with our students, examine their stage exams and hold Master Classes. Having visiting professionals of such a high calibre is important to the students as it exposes them to the best in the profession and sets standards at a world class level.
The support group also supports events associated with the ballet and the graduation of the Year 12 students. Our end of year production this year is Swan Lake, Acts 2 and 3, with two performances to be held at the Lady Wardle Performing Arts Centre, at St Mary's School, Karrinyup, on Sunday 20 December.
Our past students are represented in companies all over the world, as well as the West Australian Ballet and the Australian Ballet.
Your support of this small, but outstanding group of students is always appreciated.
