Fourteen Year 11-12 Drama students throughly enjoyed their tour of the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney where they participtaed in a week of workshops. NIDA is Australia's centre for excellence in training for theatre, film and television. Treading in the footsteps of Baz Luhrmann and Cate Blanchett, two of Australia’s more famous exports, students thoroughly engaged in movement, voice, characterisation and devising drama workshops.

Following the daytime workshops were evening excursions to Australia’s most famous theatre venues: seeing a German absurdist play titled  “Perplex” at Wharf One Theatre, “Strictly Ballroom” at the Lyric Theatre, “The Lion King” at Capitol Theatre, and a new Australian work “Music” at SBW Stables Theatre.

The theme of the workshops was “The Gift” with students working in ensembles to devise a piece of theatre that they performed to an audience of peers, teachers, friends and family on the Friday. The quality of the performances was outstanding; the acting tutors were most impressed by the skills, generosity and collaborative attitude of the group.
