Prime Minister Julia Gillard recently visited our historic school to meet some of the students that will be taking part in the Opening Ceremony for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in October.

The Prime Minister joined Senator for Western Australia Louise Pratt, CHOGM Taskforce Head Terry Crane and education sector heads at a rehearsal session at Perth Modern School in Subiaco.

Prime Minister Gillard said the Opening Ceremony will provide a wonderful opportunity to showcase and celebrate our Australian lifestyle and culture.

After the rehearsal, the Prime Minister also spoke with students and teachers, and congratulated Perth Modern School on celebrating its centenary year.

The Opening Ceremony is a key part of the CHOGM official program and will be held on Friday 28 October 2011.

A combined student choir selected from secondary schools around Western Australia will perform for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and more than 50 world leaders.

Perth Modern School principal Lois Joll said that it was a thrill for students and staff alike to have the Prime Minister visit the school.
