Social Science Learning Area
The Social Science Learning Area at Perth Modern School has seven outcomes:

  • Investigation, communication and participation;
  • Time, continuity and change;
  • Place and space;
  • Culture;
  • Resources;
  • Natural and social systems;
  • Active citizenship
The Middle School Curriculum provides students with opportunities to learn how to investigate, understand and communicate how individuals and groups live together and interact with their environment. Social Science helps students become critical thinkers by encouraging them to develop understanding through processes of social inquiry, environmental appraisal, ethical analysis and the skills to constructively critique various perspectives from past and present contexts. Rigorous academic challenges and curriculum negotiation take place to satisfy individual student needs.

The Senior School Curriculum has been created to offer rich tasks and interesting challenges. Students in Year 10 are exposed to the skills needed to study History, Geography, Economics and Philosophy and Ethics. These skills include essay writing, source analysis, critical thinking, evaluation and assessment, analytical, reading and problem solving skills.
