The annual Charity Day run by Perth Modern Day raised more than $6300 for local charity Ocean Heroes. Students in Year 9 raise money by running activity and food stalls for their fellow students.
Ocean Heroes is a charity that provides the opportunity for children on the autistic spectrum to take part in surfing lessons. Formed in 2016 by surfers Sam Moyle, Luke Hallam and Tom Johnston, the charity offers one-on-one and group surfing lessons in a supported, safe and inclusive environment.
“Learning to surf offers a fun, healthy way for children to develop that confidence, boost their mood and make connection with others,” founder Luke Hallam said.
Perth Modern School Head Boy Aaron Trawinski said the Student Council chose Ocean Heroes for the 2020 Charity Day as it is a local initiative established by young surfers looking to make a difference to young people.
“We believed that supporting a WA based charity allowed us to give back to our local community directly, and any money raised is much more significant to smaller organisations where it can really make a difference,”
