You can help us Raise the Roof – Cyril Tyler Auditorium opening in September, 2021
Perth Modern School commenced a fundraising program in 2016 known as ‘Raise the Roof’ for a new 700 seat multipurpose auditorium and we started building Stage 1 in May, 2020. Significant donor Don Tyler (Class of 1945) has named the auditorium after his step father Cyril Tyler, who raised him from a small baby. Don said he chose his stepfather as he had inspired Don growing up to give generously in order to ‘lift people up.’ We are excited to announce that the Cyril Tyler Auditorium will have its grand opening on Saturday, 11 September 2021!
We are still fundraising for some finishing items including landscaping and artwork – gold and silver seat plaques are still available as a way to acknowledge our donors.

ALL DONATIONS TO THE PERTH MODERN SCHOOL FOUNDATION BUILDING FUND ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE
I am delighted and honoured to be the Chair of the Perth Modern School Board which fully supports the Raise the Roof campaign for a state-of-the-art 700-seat multipurpose auditorium. The student population at Mod has grown from 930 students in 2011 to more than 1450 today and another large capacity venue to provide enriched curriculum opportunities became a must. It is wonderful that building has commenced on the auditorium and a completion date of May/June 2021 expected.
I believe the decision to build a 700-seat multipurpose auditorium at Perth Modern School shows wisdom and foresight. The multipurpose auditorium is a most innovative and exciting initiative. I am confident it will be recognised as a community beacon for generations to come.
We have an opportunity now to move quickly into a new era of teaching and learning. Some further fundraising is required for the fit out so as to benefit current students as well as future generations of Modernians and I encourage our school community to contribute to the final stage if it is possible to do so.
The auditorium will be a student hub for innovation, knowledge, creativity and for enjoyment and I encourage the school community and others to get behind this wonderful project that will benefit our students as well as the entire community immensely.Dr Ken Michael AC

Providing a Fabulous Built Environment
At Perth Modern School, we strongly believe in the development of the well-rounded child. The delivery of a comfortable and spacious auditorium for innovative curriculum delivery will encourage young curious minds to flourish and we are delighted that building of the auditorium has commenced with a completion date of May/June 2021. A Turning of the Sod Ceremony to celebrate the commencement of building was held on May 11 with top donor and school dignitaries in attendance. The opportunity to build a multipurpose auditorium is really exciting. Currently, Mod has only one small-sized venue with permanent seating that can fit only a single year group. A 700-seat auditorium will allow students in multiple year groups to engage with expert guest speakers in their varied fields and perform in concerts and productions in a state-of-the-art environment.
Parents and other members of the school community are invited to contribute to the final stage of the campaign and be acknowledged with a Seat Plaque or Honour Roll. Please contact the Finance Office if you would like to take part on (08) 9380 0543. All donations to the Perth Modern School Foundation Building Fund are tax deductible.
The venue will mirror a large university lecture theatre and encourage student-centred, collaborative learning and large groups to come together for guest speakers, flexible multi-year groupings, House assemblies, music concerts and drama productions. It will contain an orchestra pit, large stage with wings that is as big as His Majesty’s Theatre, dressing rooms, backstage area and an overhang, and will connect to an existing industrial kitchen and large function area. The students of Perth Modern School are amongst Western Australia’s best and brightest and like the Modernians before them, many will undoubtedly go on to demonstrate excellence in a wide range of fields. We owe it to them to provide the very best of facilities as we support them on their journey to ‘be their best.’Lois Joll
