✨ International Women’s Day at Perth Modern School ✨

Today we were honoured to welcome The Hon Julie Bishop to Perth Modern School as part of our International Women’s Day celebrations. Julie shared fascinating insights from her remarkable career — including her time as Australia’s Foreign Minister, Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party, her work as a top commercial lawyer, and her current role as Chancellor of the Australian National University.

Our students asked a series of thoughtful and engaging questions, expertly led by our Year 12 students Stella A. and Mary M., who guided the discussion with confidence and curiosity.

We extend our sincere thanks to Julie for generously giving her time and inspiring our students, parents and staff with her leadership, experience and wisdom.

A wonderful way to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women in Australia and around the world. 💜

🎨 Visual Arts Oil Painting Workshop Last week, our Year 10 and 11 Visual Arts students had an incredible opportunity to take part in a full‑day oil painting workshop with renowned realist portrait artist Rachelle Dusting. Throughout the day, students explored the foundations of oil painting, from tonal studies to colour temperature exercises, before putting their skills to the test by creating a full portrait in oils. They gained valuable hands-on experience with layering, blending and intentional brushwork. A key focus of the workshop was learning to capture the complexities of human skin tones. Students experimented with subtle changes in colour, tone and temperature to create depth, realism and emotion in their portrait work. It was an inspiring and enriching experience that offered real insight into professional art techniques. Students are now ready to apply these new skills to this term’s portrait painting project! 🎨✨ A big thank you to

🌊 Diving Deep into Creativity in Year 9! 🎨🐠

Our Year 9 Sculpture students have been making a splash this week as they explore the ocean and our complex relationship with marine life. A visit to the Aquarium of WA gave them the chance to observe and sketch incredible sea creatures up close, building a real appreciation for the beauty and fragility of the underwater world.

Now the creativity begins. Students will transform their observations into large pastel artworks and suspended sculptures made from recycled materials, expressing the delicate balance between human impact and marine ecosystems.

We can’t wait to see these powerful, thought‑provoking pieces come to life. Stay tuned for some amazing student work! 🌟🐬♻️
