Professional Background - Mitchell Mackay

Before his appointment as Principal of Perth Modern School in July 2023, Mitchell Mackay served as the substantive Principal of John Curtin College of the Arts for 17 years. His distinguished career with the Department of Education spans more than 40 years, during which he was recognised as Principal of the Year at the 2021 WA Education Awards.

Throughout his career, Mr Mackay has held a range of senior leadership roles, including:

  • Assistant Regional Director (2015)
  • Director of the School Improvement and Support Unit (2017)
  • Principal of Rossmoyne Senior High School and Leeming Senior High School
  • Manager of Operations, Fremantle–Peel District Office
  • Deputy Principal, Head of Learning Area (Mathematics), Year Coordinator, and Mathematics Teacher

Mr Mackay holds a Master of Education in Educational Management and Administration, as well as a Bachelor of Education in Mathematics and Science.
