Professional Background - Mitchell Mackay

Before being appointed Principal of Perth Modern School in July 2023, Mitchell Mackay served as the substantive principal at John Curtin College of the Arts for 17 years. His extensive career with the Education Department spans more than 40 years, during which he was recognised as the Principal of the Year for 2021 at the WA Education Awards.

His professional journey includes various leadership positions:

  • Assistant Regional Director (2015)
  • Director of the School Improvement and Support Unit (2017)
  • Principal of Rossmoyne and Leeming Senior High Schools
  • Manager of Operations for the Fremantle-Peel District Office
  • Roles as Deputy Principal, Head of Learning Area Mathematics, Year Coordinator, and Mathematics teacher

His educational qualifications include a Master of Education in Educational Management and Administration and a Bachelor of Education in Mathematics and Science.
