During the April school holidays, Marcel competed in the Next Gen Ice Hockey Tournament in Melbourne, where his Under 17 team secured a silver medal against strong competition from across Australia. Marcel was also selected as one of the Most Valuable Players (MVPs) in the tournament's Under 17 All Stars Team, recognising his exceptional skill, dedication and contribution on the ice. Adding to an already impressive year, Marcel recently competed in the OneHockey Tournament, where he was named Alternate Captain of his team. Marcel and his teammates went on to achieve gold medal success in the Bantam (Under 15) Division, a fantastic accomplishment and testament to his leadership and talent. This week, we welcomed students and teachers from our Japanese sister school, Hikone Higashi High School. The group will be staying with Mod host families for a week, enjoying the sights of Perth, and learning more about Australian culture. They will also participate in classes at Mod, helping our students improve their Japanese.

Huge thanks to all the host families, as well as all the staff across the school who have given their time to help make the Hikone students' stay a memorable one.

Perth Modern School congratulates Diya S. and Sara R., winners of the Awards Australia Outstanding School Student Award at the 2026 7NEWS Young Achiever Awards WA.

The award recognises young Western Australians who demonstrate exceptional leadership, vision and commitment to making a positive difference in their communities. Through their initiative, Elevare Education, Diya and Sara have supported migrant students to navigate new educational environments through mentoring, mindset coaching and transition support.

🏒 Making an Impact on Ice! 🥉
Perth Modern School student Declan G. (Year 8 ) recently represented Western Australia at the U13 Phil Ginsberg National Ice Hockey Championship in Newcastle, New South Wales.

Competing against teams from New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and a combined ACT/South Australia side, Declan and the WA team put in a strong performance throughout the tournament, finishing on the podium with a bronze medal.

What a fantastic achievement, Declan. We are proud of your commitment, determination and success, and the way you represented WA and Perth Mod on the national stage. ❄️🏒🥉

Celebrating NAIDOC Week at Perth Modern School 🌿
Our students engaged in a week of meaningful learning, connection and celebration as part of our NAIDOC Week activities at the end of Term 2.
From assemblies, movement workshops and smoking ceremonies to bush tucker experiences and the creation of a collaborative school artwork, students had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and traditions.
A special thank you to Corroboree for Life, Whadjuk Catering, and Follow the Dream alumni, who generously shared their knowledge, stories and experiences with our students.
