Celebrating NAIDOC Week at Perth Modern School 🌿
Our students engaged in a week of meaningful learning, connection and celebration as part of our NAIDOC Week activities at the end of Term 2.
From assemblies, movement workshops and smoking ceremonies to bush tucker experiences and the creation of a collaborative school artwork, students had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and traditions.
A special thank you to Corroboree for Life, Whadjuk Catering, and Follow the Dream alumni, who generously shared their knowledge, stories and experiences with our students.
We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from First Nations people.

What an incredible showcase on July 2nd as our amazing Year 7 HASS students unveiled their museum exhibitions, each one shining a spotlight on a significant individual from the Ancient World! ✨

Our budding historians impressed us all, confidently sharing how perspectives on their chosen figures have changed over time, and walking us through their research journey like true experts. 📚🔍

🧭 Charting New Terrain: A Mod Student on the Move! 🗺️

A huge congratulations to Quinn L., who has been selected for the WA Schools Orienteering Team.

Quinn will proudly represent Western Australia and our school at the 2026 Australian Schools Orienteering Competition in Canberra, competing across nine days of challenging championship events.

(Year 10) on winning the Australian Brain Bee Competition – Western Australia! 🧠🏆 This impressive accomplishment reflects Abby’s dedication, curiosity, and passion for science, particularly in the fascinating field of neuroscience. The Brain Bee challenges students on their knowledge of the brain and nervous system, making this a truly exceptional achievement. Congratulations also to Maheen M. and Freeman W. in Year 10 who placed second and third respectfully in the individual categories. In the team event, we placed second. 🧭 A Successful Day for Perth Modern Orienteers!** Our Perth Modern orienteers had a brilliant day at Mills Park, competing in the State School Orienteering Championships under beautiful clear skies! ☀️ Students competed across a range of divisions, with every competitor gaining valuable experience out on the course. We couldn't be prouder of the effort and determination shown by all! 🌟 Student Achievement Spotlight 🌟 Congratulations to Lexie S., in Year 8 who represented Western Australia in the Calisthenics Interstate Challenge on Saturday, 20 June. Lexie was selected for the WA State Team Junior Tier 1, a significant achievement that followed more than six months of dedicated training. Competing against South Australia here in Perth, the WA Junior Team was awarded the Interstate Challenge Championship. Balancing weekly six‑hour State Team training sessions alongside regular club commitments and schoolwork is no small feat. Lexie’s hard work, perseverance and teamwork have been truly impressive. Congratulations to Year 11 student Prince T., who recently took part in the Perth Speech and Drama Festival Competition 2026.

Prince delivered an impressive Dramatic Monologue performance and was awarded Highly Commended in the Year 11 category, a wonderful recognition in a field of talented students from across Perth.

🎶 Sophia Shines at State Barbershop Festival 🎶 Over the weekend of 13 June, Perth Modern School student Sophia H., in Year 11 competed as a chorister with the West Australian Young Voices’ Extension Ensembles at the Barbershop Harmony Australia Western Region Festival. Sophia performed as the Tenor in the quartet Chordial Greetings, which achieved an outstanding result, 2nd place in the Schools Quartet Category. This achievement names them the 2026 Western Region Schools Quartet Silver Medallists and qualifies the group for the National Festival.
