🌟 Alumni Achievement - Alex Turley
Congratulations to Perth Modern School graduate Alex Turley from the Class of 2012, who has been recognised at the 2026 Art Music Awards, winning Work of the Year: Large Ensemble for the ocean’s dream of itself.
Inspired by the words of Western Australian poets, the work for mezzo-soprano and orchestra premiered at Wyoming’s Grand Teton Music Festival in 2025 and is set for its Australian premiere with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 2027.
A remarkable achievement from one of our talented alumni. Congratulations, Alex!

🏊♀️ Congratulations to Isabelle H! 🏊♀️ We are proud to celebrate Year 9 student Isabelle H., (Year Eight) who was selected for the School Sport WA Interstate Swimming Team to represent WA in the 2026 School Sport Australia Aquatic Games. The event was held in Melbourne in July, bringing together some of the country's best young swimmers. Isabelle competed in an impressive range of events, including the: 🏅50m Freestyle 🏅50m Butterfly 🏅50m & 100m Backstroke 🏅Mixed 13-14 Years 200m Medley Relay 🏅Girls 13-14 Years 200m Freestyle Relay Her individual results included: ⭐11th in the 50m Butterfly ⭐12th in the 50m Freestyle ⭐14th in the 100m Backstroke ⭐17th in the 50m Backstroke Representing your state at a national competition is a remarkable achievement. 🎶 Perth Modern Musician Bound for National Finals
Perth Modern School student Lucas A., (Year 9) and his ensemble, CHROMOS Trio, have been selected as Western Australian finalists in Musica Viva Australia’s Strike A Chord 2026, Australia’s national chamber music competition for secondary school students.
Ahead of the National Final at the Melbourne Recital Centre later this month, CHROMOS Trio will perform at a special WA Finalist Fundraiser Concert this Sunday at Christ Church Claremont.

Our Visual Arts students recently participated in a portrait painting workshop, awarded to the school as part of Year 11 student Raadin Ebadi’s success as a joint winner of The Lester Prize Youth Awards for Portraiture’s High School Prize.
We were fortunate to welcome artist Jessica Logan, who shared her artistic processes and guided students through creating their own expressive portraits. Students explored colour, brushwork and layering, while experimenting with new techniques and developing their individual painting styles.
Congratulations again to Raadin on this outstanding achievement, and thank you to Jessica and The Lester Prize for providing such a valuable opportunity for our young artists.

A simple act of respect can make a lasting impression. We were delighted to receive this message from a member of our community about a group of Perth Modern School students travelling home on public transport: "I just wanted to say that whilst getting the train home this afternoon, a group of young gentlemen from your school vacated their seats for me and stayed standing even though there were no other passengers to take them. I heard them discussing whether they should sit again, and heard one boy say they should stay standing as it is the respectful thing to do. I was happily surprised by this, as it isn’t common amongst a lot of high schoolers. Thought you might like to know." 🎨 Celebrating Success at the 2026 Outside the Frame Art Awards! 🎨 In its 26th year, the City of Armadale’s Outside the Frame Art Awards continues to showcase some of Perth’s most exciting emerging young artists. Professionally curated and judged, the exhibition provides senior secondary students with the unique opportunity to exhibit their work in a public gallery setting. 🎺 Outstanding Success for Imogen at the Fremantle Eisteddfod 🎶 Congratulations to Imogen M. (Year 10) on her outstanding achievement at the Fremantle Eisteddfod. Imogen was awarded First Place in the Brass Grade 7 division, performing on trumpet with a captivating rendition of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor. The adjudicators also specially commended her for her stylistic interpretation and clarity of articulation.
