SPHINX SOCIETY PERTH MODERN SCHOOL EXCEPTIONAL SCHOOLING EXCEPTIONAL STUDENTS

There are many ways that students are recognised for different achievements, both inside and outside the classroom.

House Points

All students are acknowledged for effort, demonstrating the School Values and academic achievement through House Points. These are awarded to students throughout the year and in the final Year Assembly, students will be awarded a Bronze, Silver or Gold House award.

Pegasus Society

Middle Years students are encouraged to strive to achieve Pegasus Society for the six semesters they are in the Middle Years. Pegasus is about participation with Community Service, Co-curricular activities, Competitions and House involvement. Each year group has different criteria to meet. If you achieve Pegasus Society, you attain a pin, badge and with the attainment of six semesters, on the Honours Board.

Sphinx Society

The Sphinx Society is open to all Years 10, 11 and 12 students and is designed to encourage academic excellence in Senior Years students. Eligibility is by semester and is determined at the completion of each semester report. Membership is for the semester following earning the award. All students must maintain Good Standing for the semester and have an attendance rate above 90 per cent.

At the Presentation Ceremony students who have been members of the Sphinx Society for all six semesters will be acknowledged.

The benefits of being a Sphinx Society member includes a pin awarded at the start of the membership and a badge after four semesters, access to the guest speaker program, and acknowledgement through the school newsletter, invites to morning teas and a certificate.  Students who achieve membership for six semesters across Years 10-12 are recognised on a special Honour Board.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

Students in Year 9 can participate in the International Duke of Edinburgh Award. Although most students use their external activities for the Skills, Voluntary Service, and Physical Recreation, some extra-curricular activities at school also can be used. To complete the Adventurous Journey, students access external organisations that operate specifically for Duke of Edinburgh participants.

Academic Awards

After each semester, students are recognised for different academic awards. The Course Award acknowledges the top student in the course, an Excellence Award acknowledges the top 3 per cent and the Merit Award acknowledges the top 10 per cent of students.

School Values

Perth Modern School puts a strong emphasis on its values of Compassion, Commitment, Courage, Curiosity and Collaboration.  Teachers are encouraged to acknowledge students when they show the school values in their words, actions and deeds. After each semester, students who have consistently demonstrated the School Values are recognised at the Semester assembly.
