“This piece represents the six seasons of the Noongar calendar. The piece is composed of four sections separated by the three dark rings. The centre section represents the 12 months, each represented by a different number of dots. The next section depicts the four western seasons, the seasons we use. The following section has the names of the six Noongar seasons aligned with our seasons. The outside pieces have flora, fauna, and selected objects of cultural significance that are associated with the season in that sector. The calendar is read like a clock (with no beginning or end). I decided to use natural materials and wood colours to signify the Noongar people’s close relationship with the country.” – Noah West, Year 10
