Perth Modern School student Chloe Christiansen will take to the stage at the Regal Theatre in July when the smash hit musical We Will Rock You returns to Perth.
The 15-year-old Perth Modern student has been cast as a Teen Queen in Platinum Entertainment’s reimagined production of We Will Rock You, which features the music of British rock legends, Queen, and is based on Ben Elton’s book.
“It’s very exciting to be part of a show of this calibre and be on stage with some of Western Australia’s best performers who I can look up to and aspire to be,” said Chloe.
“It’s a challenge to learn all of the harmonies but the music is really fun.”
We Will Rock You features:
We Will Rock You tells the story of planet Earth 300 years in the future where society exists under an Orwellian regime designed to ensure everyone looks and acts the same. It’s a place where music – especially rock music – is virtually unknown.
But there are some – the Bohemians – who don’t conform, and their quest to find the music that will defeat the regime and set the people free is framed against a feast of iconic Queen hits including Radio Ga Ga, I Want to Break Free, Killer Queen, Under Pressure, Bohemian Rhapsody and, of course, the eponymous We Will Rock You.
“I’m playing a Teen Queen who is mind-controlled by Killer Queen’s Globalsoft Corporation,” explains Chloe.
“It’s kind of weird to know this show was written over 20 years ago – before smartphones, and as a teenager in Perth, I can say that my phone and social media can control me – but only if I let it.
Platinum Entertainment’s Katrina Patient said the company, which also runs Perth Youth Theatre, was privileged to be able to include Chloe in its latest professional production.
“Chloe has been part of Perth Youth Theatre for a decade,” said Katrina.
“We’ve watched her grow as performer over this time and we’re thrilled to be able to give her and some other amazing up-and-coming Perth talent a professional platform to further hone their skills.
“At Platinum, we believe it’s important the next generation of local performers know there are opportunities out in the future for them.”
The We Will Rock You 2023 season features a kid friendly matinee (with toned down language), including a Q & A with the cast, on Thursday July 13 at 2pm.
