Perth Modern School student Stephanie White has returned home from the Australian Gymnastics Championships held on the Gold Coast with a gold medal.
Stephanie, 14, and her WA teammates won Level 9 Artistic gold for their performance on the four apparatus – vault, beams, bar and floor. This was fantastic achievement for WA up against the larger, more populous states.
She began gymnastics when she five-years-old and trains six times per week, totalling 20 hours.
“The sport is really fun, and I enjoy learning new skills, working hard and challenging myself,” Stephanie said.
“I do gymnastics with my best friends who I have known my entire life and I love spending time with them.”
Her favourite apparatus is the floor because she “loves tumbling” with her least favourite being the beam because “it’s really scary and hard.”
On her god medal, she said it was “really exciting and unexpected to win and it was amazing to share it with my best friends and the team.”
Stephanie’s goal is to make level 10 in gymnastics and then compete in the national championships at level 10.
